Welcome to the Island of Banoi!

The player is drawn into the world of Dead Island on the brink of a mysterious epidemic that suddenly, and without warning, breaks out on the fictional island of Banoi. As a guest of the Royal Palms Resort, the player's stay was supposed to be a dream holiday; a luxurious getaway to the beautiful beaches of a tropical paradise. But faced with the reality of a zombie apocalypse, there is only one thing left to do: Survive.

This is Dead Island... a paradise to die for.

The Background

Banoi Island is an island located among the Papua New Guinean islands in the Pacific, which serves as the main location in Dead Island. It is the location of the popular Royal Palms Resort as well as many other hotels and settlements.

The island of Banoi is located just off the coast of Papua New Guinea, located south of the Equator and just north of Australia.

Until very recently, much of the island was wild and primitive and totally untouched by the modern world. Even though the capital, Moresby, was founded by Australian settlers in 1895, many places deep in the interior still have never been seen by western eyes.

Banoi's lush tropical beauty offers many natural wonders, from verdant rain forests to mountain highlands to virginal white sand beaches. It's a sportsman's paradise with world-class rock climbing, fishing, hunting, sailing, and kayaking.

The inhabitants are proud of their rich cultural heritage. The indigenous art is world renowned and unbelievably varied, reflecting the many local tribes with their own myths, legends and language.

The Characters

Name : Xian Mei Category : Hero Xian Mei is an employee at the Royal Palm Resort, born and raised in China, she chose an occupation that allowed her to leave her country of birth in order to experience different people and cultures - Banoi is her first placement outside of her homeland. She is a fast learner, intelligent, and also - as a passionate sportswoman - quick on her feet. Having just arrived at the island, Xian Mei was responsible for a myriad of menial tasks at the hotel, before starting work as a receptionist. This opportunity to meet and greet all the different nationalities that visited the hotel was ideal for Xian Mei, as it provided a perfect source of inspiration for her dreams of travelling the globe. That is of course, before suddenly the world around her begins to crumble...

Stats Class: Assassin Speciality: Sharp Weapon Expert Health: 90 Speed: 100 Stamina: 100 Rage Mode: When Xian Mei's rage mode is activated she gains the ability to swing her weapons with greatly increased damage and speed. Skill Tree Categories: Bloodrage, Combat, Survival

Name : Sam B Category : Hero A one-hit-wonder rap star of fading fame, Sam B was booked by the Royal Palms Resort Hotel to perform his well known song "Who do You Voodoo?" at a high profile hotel party. He gladly took the chance to play this gig. Once strong, self-confident and proud, Sam B has had a troubled past and a history of drug and alcohol abuse, as his private life became caught in a haze of fake friends and bad advisors. Trying to pick up the pieces and earn some extra cash, he suddenly finds himself surrounded by a whole lot of different problems...

Name : Logan Category : Hero A former American football star, spoiled by life and successful in every possible way, Logan's ego finally put an end to his bright future. Taking part in a reckless street race with tragic consequences, Logan not only killed a young woman - his unfortunate passenger; he also fractured his knee, putting an end to his sports career. His fall from stardom inevitably followed and he plunged swiftly into a life of bitterness and despair. In an attempt to get away from the demons hunting him, he gladly takes the chance to experience the beauties and wonders of Banoi. Soon enough though the getaway he was dreaming about turns into a real life nightmare...

Stats Class: Jack-of-All-Trades Speciality: Throwing Expert Health: 100 Speed: 100 Stamina: 80 Rage Mode: When Logan's rage mode is activated he gains the ability to throw knives with greatly increased damage. Skill Tree Categories: Fury, Combat, Survival

Name : Purna Category : Hero Purna is a former officer of the Sydney Police department. After losing her career when she killed a child molester who could not be touched legally because of his wealth and connections, Purna then turned to working as a bodyguard for VIPs in dangerous places all over the world. She is hired not just for her skills but her looks as wealthy men did not mind showing up with Purna on their arm.

Stats Class: Leader Speciality: Ranged Weapons Expert Health: 100 Speed: 100 Stamina: 90 Rage Mode: When Purna's rage mode is activated she gains the ability to take quick, accurate headshots with her gun instantly killing zombies. Skill Tree Categories: Rage, Combat, Survival

The Zombies

Common Zombies

Vessels Vessels are the slow-moving zombies in Dead Island. The most common type of zombies, they shuffle around slowly and are able to rush forward when going to attack, sometimes grabbing its target before attacking and biting. As the hero walks around, he or she may notice that the corpses on the ground are not corpses after all, but Vessels remaining stationary before becoming active.

Infected The Infected are the fast-moving zombies in Dead Island. They can run faster than a Vessel's charge and attack the survivor in a fury of swipes and bites. They have an overall larger resistance to damage then Vessels, and can do more damage overall with a lesser toll on their stamina.

Walker The Walker is a slow-moving zombie, similar to the Vessels, that move at a walking pace in Dead Island. They attack in a similar way to Vessels and Infected with swipes, bites, grabbing ahold of their victims.

Special Zombies

Thug A Thug is a type of zombie encountered throughout Dead Island. Thugs are physically larger and much more durable then most of the other zombie types. Their names hint that they were on the wrong side of the law when the virus first appeared on the island, or it may just refer to their brute strength.

The Drowner The Drowner is a Zombie with red eyes, an incredably fat body and is completly covored in a shiny mucus-like membrane. This Zombie has spent too long in the swimming pool, and has become swollen with water, with skin stretched so tight you can see his organs beneath. Its abilities include vomiting on the player, imparing his or her vision.

The Floater The Floater is a special zombie in Dead Island, that is similar to the Drowner. Described as a large, bloated zombie, Floaters can be found in the sewers of the city of Moresby. They will proceed to vomit nasty green bile on their opponents when they get too close. Upon defeat, Floater Meat can be gathered from its corpse.

The Ram He wears a straight jacket that permanantly bounds his arms and a Hannibal Lecter styled mask on his face which stops him from biting. He charges at you like an unstoppable ram. The only known way to kill him is by hitting his weak point on his back.

The Suicider Riddled with pulsating, infected boils, begging you to help him. Getting too close will cause him to explode in a shower of pus. The Suicider, as the name states, main ability appears to be gettting close to the character and then exploding into a shower of pus, knocking the player down.

The Butcher The Butcher is a special zombie in Dead Island. The butcher, also known as a Beserker[1] is a zombie who had its arms snapped off when it was once a human and was being attacked. With its exposed forearms, he is able to use them as deadly and sharp weapons when attacking a human, in addition to its quick speed. Due to it's combat style, Butchers are best dealt from at a distance.
