The server browser now works, but isn't improved, functionality wise:

A new BFBC2 PC Beta client is here! Don't worry it is a new painless process and will not be a massive 1.4Gb download again.
The RC2 contains the following fixes:

Front End:


•Fixes server browser crashes. Server browser more resilient against corrupt online service data, and better support for large number of servers.
•Several server browser ping issues resolved.
Windows XP Stability:


•Fixed crash on windows XP at end of round, exit game and display mode changes and.
•Proper window style / mouse confinement when starting game maximized on XP .
Options Dialog:


•Mouse sensitivity setting gives more effect.
•Mouse sensitivity loaded on game startup.
The update to RC2 is 8.4Mb

When you next start BFBC2 you should get be prompted to update (Steam users can update through Steam). If you have trouble updating by running the game itself go to \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield Bad Company 2 - BETA and run BFBC2BetaUpdater.exe as Administrator

Killing People

Still bullet reg issues in the beta. It has been acknowledged. Seems to be a case of "missing" bullets. i.e. you get a hit indicator but the game does not count it, making it seem like the enemy has more health than they actually have. You sometimes find a shotgun blast at point blank range will tag but not kill, if they kill you the cam shows them still at full or high health.

- Can't bind some keys to certain actions.

- When I run, I move slower than if I was just walking.

- Takes a long time to update stats.

- Can't assign any actions to mouse buttons.

- Logitech G15 app cancels out media key bindings.

- Issues with keys on Logitech G13/Logitech Illuminated that suddenly aren't assigned to anything.

- You can't see your ping in game.

- You can't order the games in terms of ping making it hard to find a good server.

- Game goes into windowed mode after I alt+tab instead of minimizing.

- My characters arms sometimes dissapear when i unscope with the sniperrifle.

- Sometimes I fall through stairs while trying to run up them (this is not lag).

- Spawning without parachute and falling to death.

- I cannot strafe and move forward same time.
(Note: Same as all Battlefield games, it has never been there.)

- Game crashes right after EA and DICE logos appear.

- Whenever I would hit Shift + tab I couldnt move until i alt tabbed, got back in, then pressed Esc.
(Note: Steam overlay issue fixed in current steam beta client (You can simply press SHIFT+TAB to get control back, no need to ALT-TAB)

- Some sounds are played in the wrong speaker.
(DICE: Audio team are investigating).

- Crackups in sound.
(DICE: No data yet).

- Weapon balancing and tuning.
(DICE: When we created the first Closed Beta, we picked the most stable build we had. (Well, you have all seen how well that build fared when it faced the real world...) We had to choose either stability or new content -- and stability won. Due to this, all content in the Closed Beta was some weeks old already at launch. *Weapon balancing is on-going in the retail game, and we are following what's happening on the forums).

- Crashing to the desktop each time a game finishes.

- RPG launch animation and sound goes off when you exit a vehicle with the RPG equipped even though you didn't actually fire it.

- Crosshair disappears randomly.

- The server browser on the top of the screen causes instant crash. The Server list on the right side works properly.

- The shotgun (870 and Saiga) reticule (circle) will randomly disappear for approximately 2 seconds. It also randomly fails to reappear when crouching/uncrouching.

- The Grenade animation rarely plays correctly.

- When sniping, allies names should appear when looking through scope so we can warn them of near by enemies.
(Note: Its not a bug, use your social button (Q) to alert them of nearby enemy's)

- Whenever there is an explosion from a tank near me the game crashes.

- Random ctd due to right mouse click (occasionally).

- Game crashes, when I sat in the helicopter and tried to take off.

- Flashing water and terrain on Crossfire
(DICE: Fixed in retail game).

- Particle shadows disabled on SLI + DirectX9.
(DICE: They used to cause a huge performance drop. Fixed in retail game).

- DirectX9 crashes.
(DICE: We have improved stability some in the retail game, particularly when "losing" the graphics device due to alt-tab).

- WinXP 32 / WinXP 64 compatibility.
(DICE: We have done a few crash fixes, although we have no data specifically on XP64 yet).

- Updater fails downloading patch and gives a nonsensical error message about "unable to download patch, check your internet connection".
(DICE: Fixed in the retail game. The problem is both in the game's installer and in the updater. Closed Beta workaround: launch the Updater as Administrator).

- The Killcam tweaks out (jiggles back and forth) sometimes.
(Note: Only seems to happen if the person who killed you was killed prior to the spectator camera comming on).

- "Connection to server has been lost"
(DICE: This one is tricky. We have no solution yet).

- The game has high framerate on a machine, yet the input is very laggy.
(DICE: We have a fix in the works).

- The game accepted my serial key, but then failed logging in to EA Online.
(DICE: Are you having any exotic characters in your password? One person who had the character ‘}’ in his password had that very problem. *Closed Beta workaround: Change your password (using www.ea.com) to a password that only contains the characters A-Z, a-z, 0-9. Then try logging in in the game again).

- Stepped outside of the playable area on the map with a vehicle, and had 10 seconds to make it back. Didn't make it in time / game crashed.

- Delay in aiming down the sight (no lag).

- Mouse sensitivity too high/low (Differs for users). (Solved)

- Unable to map "enter" key without squad select menu appearing.

- Invert mouse wheel" does not work.

- Can't use/read the chat when I'm in the "Select Spawn Point" screen.

- Can't use/read the chat when I'm in the "Killcam" screen (after I get killed).

- PKM shoots higher then the iron sights position them when crouched, standing no issue, right on target, especially at range.

- Lack of more informative HUDs for vehicles (reload) and infantry.

- You can get into vehicles (all vehicles) through small holes shot in walls.

- Theres a problem with some machinegun (the ones in the windows) placements, the center of the window frame obstructs the view.

- Friends list doesn't show friends online even though they are.

- When you fire a mounted rocket launcher (HS) and you hit a bulalalala reflects the rocket verticle.

- Sometimes when you die it says "You were revived by ?" and wont go away till you die.

- The bloom in scopes is a bit over the top.

- Frequently can't type in squad chat while in vehicles. Mashing L, and sometimes K doesn't work.

- Grievers just spawn as engineer or sniper and then blow their own m-com stations up.

- Cannot deselect 4x scope once chosen.

- Cannot equip 12x scope whatsoever.

- After 4x scope is equipped, cannot sprint until game exit OR alt+tab out of game and back into game.

- Mounted Machine guns with the "shield" in front has some random clusters of black pixels in the "FOV".(Circled in red).

- There are more different sound issues

- No defibrilator animation.

- The word 'default' is spelt 'deafult' in-game and thus incorrect.

- After a couple of games my weapons turn invisible.

- Points no longer show up in the scoreboard.

- 2 minutes of playing connection with ea online was lost (back to main menu).

- Add a Character limit on the clan tag input.

- Using the knife immediately after killing someone with a pistol caused the game to lock up.

- UAV doesnt show allies as blue after a while. But squad members are still shown as green.

- Vertical invert mouse does not work when using the quadbike.

- You can use REDDOT on all weapons after unlocking it for the assault class.

- Tab servers not refreshing the server list, have to close and reopen the tab.

- The red dot disappears from the F2000 when choosing grenade launcher.

- M1911 causes massive lag/frame delays.

-vertical fly setting is the opposite from controlling UAV from controlling the choppers, this means that you have to change it in options every time you switch from flying the UAV to flying the chopper.

- Stuck in windows Mode.

- Random character moving to any direction after calming a ladder.

- Unable to see servers name in friends list.

- Unable to blow up building floors.

- The Saitek Cyborg command unit doesn't work correctly.

- Sometimes the tank will push you out of the way after partial clipping, other times you'll go through/get dragged inside of the tank and come out the front. Seems to happen most often when standing in between the treads on the rear of the tank.

- Sometimes Crosshair registers bullet hits (the X pops up on the crosshair) for about 3 seconds then stops, even though I haven't shot at anything. It registers something like 20 hits.

- Press M to view map as smiper and right click to enter scope, the map outline will stay and the smaller map appear.

- Grenade tap to drop, hold to throw far, atm it seams to be one setting.

- Sprint and side strafe, even if it's only a few degrees, make strafing slightly turn your movement.

- No blur on sniper scope.

- Some servers have no scoring.

- Player models show player carrying different launchers than they have. Ex) has AT-4 on back when they are using RPG.

- In the squad management screen, if there is someone on lvl 10 (Or perhaps more) Their level cycles rapidly from 1 - 50 in about a second or so, and just keeps on looping.
Doesn't affect the score board or killcam, just squad management.

- Quad bike driving through physics. Drove through a friendly tank quite easily with the physics going a bit crazy but it happend with ease. Other objects too.

- You can revive teammates threw thin walls and holes in thick walls.

- Unidentifiable VOIP sound.

- C4 destroying M-Coms with ONLY 2 charges. It may sound more of a balance issue (also teammates are able to destroy it).

- If you compared 2 of the engineer weapons: 9A-91 and the SCAR-L, they have the exact same specs.

- Weapon settings have to be reconfigured constantly.

- 4 player squads? Dice, did you really thought nobody would notice.

- Option to disable ''Press F to pick up weapon", "Press F enter a vehicle" pop ups.

- Knife a selectable weapon (the quick stab is also crap).

- If a team mate drives a vehicle into me, i can get stuck in the center of it.

- People can stand on the UAV Helicopter and get boosts to places

- Certain things like the UAV need a cooldown countdown displayed somewhere.

- Shooting the concrete pads for the ladders leading from the water to the warf creates purple squared dust puffs.

- Defenders can blow up the crates by demolishing the building there in, Perhaps stop the building collapsing until the crate is destroyed.

- After a Mapchange occurs, my friends and i get split up into random squads but stay on the same team.

- Occasionaly it will display "You were killed by ?"

- When shooting into the air you see white dots.

- The Apache Helicopter should take damage from MGs.

- Wanted to see my location on the scoreboard. But it showed someone else instead of my name when I used the "Go to me" button.

- Sometimes when i'm at the spawn screen i click enter battle and the button goes all yellow. It remains yellow and i cannot click it again or enter the battle or click anything else on my screen until i alt+tab and hit esc.

- It takes a good 30 seconds for the textbox to come up most the time.

- Sometimes you can revive an enemy.

- Drivers And Pilots can not be killed through vecs/chopper glass.

- you can mine spamming - they just wont disappear after your death until destroyed.

- In some cases parts of exploded tanks & apc's sty stuck in the air.

- Ammo and med pack wont work while holding them.

- Smoke screen fades too fast.

- Squad members spawning should be linked to a squad leader, not all squad members.

- UAV explodes always even after succesful landing.

- Servers can not be added to favorites from server history page. There is a selection button, but it does not work.

- Servers are not always added to favourites from server list even when clicking "add to favorite" selection.

- When falling from the sky and look into the scope, the cross hair does not follow the scope, it stays at a fixed position on the monitor.

- Sometimes when you are on the edge of the out of bounds, you'll randomly die.

- Stuck in windows Mode.

- On rare occasions I see other debris, crates, and broken pieces just float in the air.

- It would be nice if hitting reload automatically dropped scope and reloaded.

- Empty helicopter occationally does not accept player as a pilot, but instead throws him/her automatically to gunner's seat.

- Chat messages to all players gets redirected to dev\null without being seen by anyone.

- End-of-game screen needs an Exit Game button, not just Join.

- Several scoreboards seem to use the internationalization keys (PC_NEXT_UNLOCK) instead of their translated values (Next Unlock).

- Kill cam replays, not just a view of the killer.

- Killer specs to not take up the screen which shows kills (want to see if I kill after I've been killed).

- Icon showing you are speaking on the mic / icon showing who is speaking on the mic? (I haven't seen anything so far...).

- Add an icon over downed teammates on the ground so you can tell which body is the one you need to revive instead of just spamming the defib and hoping when theres lots of body's (And also in grass).

- You Shouldnt be able to spawn on a player who is being shot at/Enemy is near them.

- Spec Ops should be brought back, snipers running into a base to C4 walls and vehicles is silly.

- The Sniper's Motion Sensor grenades feel very useless, mabey swap it to a smoke grenade or claymore

- Doors seem to explode when you knife them, its stupid yet funny

- The Game Boundaries seem very restricted, id like to be able to jarate around on some pipelines but i get the warning messages that ill be killed.

- Removing/Inviting People from squads

- Add an option to change the location of your mini map.

- Option for a health bar.

- Knife as a selectable weapon.

- Let the whole map accessible. Not like when you blow up 2 bases you can more forward. And change to select where you can respawn. A few spawn points should be added to whole map.

- Change Chopper Controls.
Honestly, BF2's choppers had weight, you can feel you are dealing with a heavy machine, here its just, hit W, shoot up like a rocket and well it just feels way more restricted then in BF2 in terms of how you move the chopper across the battlefield, you can barely sway left or right (strafe with the mouse).

- Insert "mute player" option

- Vote kick/ban should be nice.

- There should be a possibility to queue and auto-join to full server(s)

-Implement a "net_graph" like in any source engine game that displays, at the very least, your ping and fps in one of the corners. Also include the option to enable/disable.

- Increase the power of weapons in normal mode and HC mode, so that we dont have to empty a full clip to one enemy (half clip in HC).

- Allow engineer to repair stations.

- Add spawn flare, so squad members parachute in designated area instead of the unrealistic instant spawn.

Some of these fixes appear in the patched version of the client that everyone should now be running. The server is on Release 5 and the client is on Release 2.

Here we list some of the bugs which have been reported in the Closed Beta, with confirmed info from programmer, Mikael Kalms.

How is DICE working on the game?
Fixes are made directly in the retail game. Then, depending on how much time and effort it takes, we also lift the fixes into the Closed Beta. When we have a new good build of the Closed Beta, we will release a new client.

The focus for most of the team right now is stability, not game balancing. Therefore the list below contains mainly reported stability issues.

Flashing water and terrain on Crossfire
Fixed in retail game.

Particle shadows disabled on SLI + DirectX9
They used to cause a huge performance drop.

Crash during level load on ATI x1900 cards
The game requires driver version 9.12 or later to function. 9.11 crashes hard inside the driver. Unfortunately there are no new enough drivers available for the X1900 cards.
Closed Beta workaround: Rename BFBC2Game.exe to BF2.exe, and launch BF2.exe directly.

Noted. We have reproduced it at the DICE office too.
As a side note: this never happened to a single developer during the past 6 months' worth of testing. Strange.

This one is tricky. We have no solution yet.

HBAO is very GPU hungry, resulting in low framerates on high-end machines
We are working on faster versions of the filter.

The EA maintenance is purely backend on the servers that handle accounts, server browser and stats etc for all EA games.
However, we are working on a new client seperate to this maintenance window which is with QA at the minute but they are delayed by this maintenance.
R6 is already out with the hosting providers btw.

We are looking at today but depending on maintenance it might get pushed out. So keep your fingers crossed that the QA process goes well on it

Hopefully we will have it out sometime late this afternoon/early evening. Of course it depends what QA finds in this version of the client.
I'll let you know more accurately once we have a go ahead from QA.

Rc3 Change Log

This update is about performance and stability again. We are not doing any changes to the game's datafiles.

* Reduced input "lag"
On machines where the CPU would out-run the GPU, sometimes the GPU would queue up several frames' worth of rendering commands.
This could lead to the game having a high framerate, but input still feeling very sluggish.

Now there's a limiter on how many frames the CPU is allowed to be "ahead" of the GPU.
Control this setting via Settings.ini. Default setting: RenderAheadLimit=2

o The soot on buildings with holes in them had a bugged renderpath. We switched that over to a more well-tested renderpath.

o We've gone through the hit detection logic, and client+server will now give more consistent results.

o C4 should stay attached to vehicles and not rubberband around
* Reduced spikes/dips in framerate
* Various fixes for alt+tab related CTD on Dx9
* More fixes for random CTD on Dx9
* Fix for crash when you're in a vehicle that gets destroyed

There was a race condition in the code;
System 1 thought "oh hey, you're leaving vehicle X"
System 2 thought "the vehicle got destroyed, let's remove it"

If system 2 ran before system 1, chaos would ensue.
This was actually fixed in the retail version since a month, but it was only when we got detailed crash reports from the community that we understood *why* the Beta was crashing.

Likely bugs in this build
I wouldn't be surprised if it (still) has trouble remembering your settings between rounds. It would be nice to have that fixed too, but it's better to get a patch out now, and look at the settings issues afterward.
